Installing the USB adapter for the first time can sometimes be painful.  The Valon USB adapter uses the FTDI FT232 serial UART adapter chip.  Most PCs will have and automatically find the FTDI driver for you.   If you do not have the driver you can get the latest one here.

First thing to understand is that we test every one of our USB adapters so if yours doesn’t work its not because we didn’t test it.

We set the USB adapter to comm port 4.  We recommend that if you having trouble that you check your Control Panel/Hardware/Device Manger/Ports.  You should then be able to see which port setting your computer has enumerated for the USB device.  If you need to change the port settings use the Advanced button under the Ports menu item.

Here is a step by step way to get going:

1.    Plug the synthesizer module into a 5V power supply and verify that the lock LEDs are illuminated.

2.    Plug the USB adapter into the USB port of your computer using a mini-USB cable.  Do not plug the USB adapter into the synthesizer module at this time.

3.    The computer should respond with a message indicating that the correct driver has been found and that your USB device is working.

4.    Now go to your computer’s Control Panel/Hardware/Device Manager/Ports and see what port you computer has assigned to the USB adapter.  Usually it will be port 4.  If its any other port from 1 to 9 that’s okay too.  However, if its 10 or higher you will have to change the setting to something between 1 and 9.   Let say you change it to port 3.

5.    Now plug the USB adapter into the synthesizer module.

6.    Launch the 5007 Configuration Manager Software.  If you didn’t change the port setting in step 4 above the program should be running.

7.    If you did change the port setting in step 4 above then you probably got an error message that says: The communications port that you have specified is not available.  If that’s the case press Ignore.

8.    The program will then launch.  You can now go to Comm Port (top banner) and select the port number that you set in step 4 above.

9.    Then close the Configuration Manager program and restart the program again.  It should now start successfully.
